formerly threatened scholars, human rights advocates, legal theorists
and others to discuss why scholars around the world face risks, ranging
from censorship to violence, in their pursuit of knowledge.

with Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, director of the Ibn Khaldun Center
for Development Studies in Egypt. Dr. Ibrahim is the first SAR scholar
to visit the university since the Network's arrival at NYU in late
2003.

such as Dr. Ibrahim intimidates other scholars in the country and
the region. This chills legitimate research, inhibits faculty and
students, and discourages students and young scholars from entering
