Where do the scholars come from?

Scholars at Risk has received requests for assistance from 84 countries.

What type of threats do SAR scholars face?

Any scholar who faces a risk of persecution, on account of belief, scholarship, or identity, is eligible for assistance from SAR. Risk includes the threat of repression, violence, censorship, punishment arising out of the scholar's work, their prominence, and/or their exercise of fundamental human rights. General insecurity and instability affecting the whole population of a country indiscriminately will not normally qualify.

What types of work do SAR scholars do?

Academics, researchers, and independent scholars from any discipline may qualify for assistance from SAR. In most cases, a graduate degree will be expected. Scholars at Risk receives requests for assistance from scholars in all fields. Half of all requests are from scholars in the social sciences and humanities.
